Act 1 scene 4

I think Troy is very closed minded but also afraid that his son won't get as much opportunity because he didn't. I think his son is gonna show him and Troy will become more open to other things. When he gotten his ten dollars back that he wasn't expecting probably made him think...

act 1 scene 4

i think that troy is good father but his stubborness and lack of understanding for what cory wants to do with his life makes the situation difficult. He doesn't want cory to go through what he went through trying to play baseball. He just wants the best for his son and doesn't want to see him get let down. He thinks the safest thing for cory to do is just to go work, make money, and save it for his future.

conflict

One of the main conflics in act one is when Troy lets his boss know that only the whites get to drive the trucks, meanwhile the colored people lift. Troy realizes his boss is racist and Troy does not appriciate the fact that only white men can drive the trucks. Bono is afraid that Troys statement will get them fired. Troy might get fired for his personality but he knew he had to stand up for himself.

Conflict

One main conflict in Act 1 is the one between Troy and his son Lyons. Lyons comes to the house to borrow ten dollars, and Troy did not want to give it to him. Lyons claimed he would pay him back because his girlfriend just started a job at the hospital. Troy says Lyons can work for his own money and Troy needs it for himself. Rose ends up getting mad at Troy and gives Lyons the money.

I have no sympathy for troy. Life isnt fair and if he feels he is being treated unequally because of the color of his skin he is probably right. Today minorities can get into schools and jobs easier then whites can. This is just the way things go. I think he isnt a bad father however.

Good Father

I believe Troy is a good father even though he is very narrow minded. Troy's past experience with baseball leads him to believe that cory wont have any future in football and hell never get reckognized because of his color. Troy just wants the best for his son and thinks he should work and make money to support himself instead of persue a sport just like troy did and go nowhere.

Act I, Scene 4

What prevents Troy from being a "good" father? Do his childhood or young adult experiences inspire any understanding or sympathy from you? EXPLAIN/DEFEND your position.

Todd

One of the main conflicts in Act I is when Troy is complaining about the white people. Bono thinks this is stupid because it might get Troy fired. Bono thinks Troy should just suck up his pride and give it up.

Conflict

One of the main conflicts in Act one, Scene one of Fences is between Troy and his son Lyons. Lyons comes to Troy's house asking for ten dollars, claiming that he would be able to pay him back because his girlfriend started working at the hospital recently. Troy refuses to give him money because he feels that Lyons needs to learn to work for his money, and because Troy needs the money for himself and Rose. In the end, Troy gives his payday to Rose, who gives ten dollars to Lyons.
One of the conflicts in act 1 scene one is when troy was talking about how all the white guys got to drive the trucks and the black people never even got a chance. On the other hand Bono thought that troy should just "chill out" and just go with it. He thinks that troy complaining about the white people it would just get him fired.

Blog

One of the conflicts in the story is between Troy and his boss. Troy feels that it is unjust that only white workers get to drive the trucks and the black workers have to do all of the lifting.

Dave

I thinks that troy feels disrespected and shut down by the white guys. Troy is probable going to yell at his boss and get him to either change his position or ignor him. Becuase of troys personality taht we know of so far he isnt going to quit right away. (yours truelly Muffin Man)

Blogggggggggg

one of the conflicts in act one scene one is the thought that Troy may lose his job because of a complaint he made. He spoke to the boss about why are only white guys aloud to drive the truck and troy was told to file a complaint with the commissioner. this was a risky decision because blacks dont get reckognized for speaking their minds and this could possibly piss off his boss and get him fired, but troy doesnt care and believes he wont get fired. I predict that troy will speak on his problem with his work and they will take into consideration what hes explaining and will start allowing the black guys to drive the trucks. Troy has the personality of doing what he wants and speaking people into doing things his way, hes very arrogant, and this is why the people at his job will fix his complaint.
Troy asked his boss why the black workers are not allowed to drive the trucks, and the white workers are. Troy feels as if he's being disrespected. Troy speaking out about that leaves open the posibility for him to get fired. I predict that Troy might be offered a second chance at work, but if he messes up again, he will lose his job.
There are many conflicts in this story. One conflict is between Troy and his boss because he finds it unfair that their are only white drivers. This causes conflict because troy could lose his job. His boss tells him to take to the union so the boss doesn't seem to care what Troy thinks. Bono is worried about this because he thinks Troy might lose his job.

ACT 1 SCENE 1

A conflict that is shown in Act 1 Scene 1 is between Troy and his boss. Troy makes a complaint to his boss that only the whites get to drive the trucks while the colored have to lift. He says that it is unfair because colored people know how to drive trucks too. Now Bono is worried that Troy's comment will get them fired but gives him respect for talking up. There is a possibility that Troy can get fired because his personality shows that he will speak up to people until they show him respect.
